Lima Peru Attractions
The months of December to March are the best time to visit Lima, Peru, when the city is at its best and winter in Cusco is cold, pleasant and dry, which can be the perfect time for you to explore the main attractions of Peru and Cusco. If you visit Lima and plan your vacation in Peru, it is usually in winter, but if you visit Cisco, it is a year-round destination. The months of December to March are the most visited and the most beautiful cities in Lima.
You may think this is the best time to visit Lima, Peru, but climate plays an important role when deciding when to visit Lima.
If you fly directly from Cusco to Machu Picchu, why not drive slowly and explore the surroundings of Lima? If you have a few days in Lima, you should not miss the day trip, which is only a few hours away from the city. You can be prepared to spend a whole day with the tour, which is absolutely worthwhile, even if you do not plan to go to the area specifically to make an excursion to Peru. Take a day trip to Lima and consider a tour of one of the other cities in the region, such as San Cristobal de los Caballeros or La Paz, unless you die to get out of this city and haven't had a ton of time to explore it.
If you are visiting Lima on your return flight, it is recommended to explore it from the main attractions, which are easily accessible from Miraflores. If you are taking a free Lima walking tour, I recommend a trip to the Plaza de Armas, the historic main square of Lima.
It is a great example of colonial architecture in Peru and one of Lima's main tourist attractions. To the right of the church is the Plaza de Armas, where you will find a number of historic buildings, such as the Cathedral of San Pedro de Lima, the National Museum of Peruvian History and the Museo de los Muertos.
If you love art and history, you should visit some of the works of art related to Peru's history, such as the National Museum of Peruvian History and the Museo de los Muertos, as well as the Museum de la Historia de Lima, the oldest museum in Peru. It is the largest and most comprehensive museum of its kind in the world, and includes everything from the most famous paintings and sculptures you have ever heard of to the best works of modern art from around the world.
There are also some really cool places to explore just outside Lima, and to do that before you head out to another part of Peru. Lima itself is certainly fantastic, but there are excellent tours that connect Cusco and Lima. A popular tourist attraction in Lima is Pachacamac, an important commercial center dating back to the pre-Inca era. The ruins are less than an hour and a half from Lima and Mystery of Peru runs day trips for $50 per person. In Cusco there is also Puerto Maldonado, which was a popular destination for exploring the Amazon rainforest. Caminos del Inca is located a few blocks from the city center and is the site of one of the largest archaeological sites in the world, the ruins of an ancient city.
After travelling a lot in the region, I would consider a visit to Ballestas Island and the city of Ica as the best Lima day trip. Most people come to Peru to visit Machu Picchu, but the opportunity to add Lima as a gateway to explore other places in Peru, such as Cusco, Lima, Cajamarca and Machus, is useful.
